Boxdale. Cleanskin sheep for the Australian farmer
Boxdale is a 12 600 acre mixed farming operation located 35km from Condobolin in NSW. The country is made up of red loam soils running to Ironbark quartz ridges and carrying 3300 ewes, some cattle and 2000 acres of crop with an average rainfall of 18 inches. Our Stud and commercial breeding ewes are joined every 8 months and we are currently enjoying in excess of 150% lambs per calendar year.
The Jones Family has lived on Boxdale for more than 20 years and have always been very interested in animal breeding. Tim and Sue were running a traditional mixed farm but with Max and Tiffany both finishing their studies and wanting to return to the farm it was decided to diversify and concentrate on breeding more sheep.
In the beginning we quickly realised there was a huge variation in the Dorper breed and a myriad of structural faults. We were very careful to only buy the best and proven stud foundation stock to avoid the influx of structural problems that plagued the Dorper industry in the early days.
The success of our breeding has been built on sound classing and the removal of any sub standard animals, both Max and Tiffany are ruthless classers and animals that don’t stand up to the requirements are removed without question.
Max and Tiffany are regular participants in judging schools with Tiffany topping her class in her 2013 Junior Judge Class and Max having completed his junior and two senior judging courses he is well on his way to becoming an accredited Dorper judge.
